Opened in 1969, Franklin County Raceway is one of the most unique tracks in the American Short Track landscape.  Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia it's a hidden gem and down-home throwback venue.  The thrilling high banked 3/8 mile paved oval has a rich history in Modified racing and the SMART Modified Tour. 

From Ray Hendrick, Satch Worley, Paul Radford, Johnny Bryant, Richie Evans, Gary Myers, Junior Miller and Ted Chirstopher, the list of Modified greats to win at Franklin County is impressive.  Now the modern stars of the SMART Mod Tour look to add their names to the list of legends. 

Under new management, the old facility is slowly experiencing a face-lift and a second-life.  This historic venue looks to race into the future and the Modifieds are a big part of that.

This is a race created to celebrate the drivers "who live by the grace of God and 600-horsepower."   You may have grew up in Modified racing and heard the term "The Mod Squad" when referring to the group of racers who wheel these mighty beasts.  That term is beloved by so many in the circle of nerf-bar-slingers.  

The Mod Squad Nationals got off to a rough start with two years in a row of weather washing out the event that was originally scheduled for Virginia's Lonesome Pine Speedway.  In 2025, the event was moved to one of Southern Modified racing's traditional speedplants, the beloved Franklin County Raceway.

Get you a drink... some popcorn, and get ready for some high speed bullring excitement at Franklin County as the Mod Squad will be in all of its glory for the Inaugural running of the Mod Squad Nationals.  Oh, and our announcer Bob Dillner will be fired up to say "The Mod Squad."
