Hickory Motor Speedway is known as "The Birthplace of NASCAR Stars." That motto holds true when you look at the extensive list of racing legends who have raced at the Newton, NC track. From it's opening in 1952 as a dirt track, drivers like Ned Jarrett, Ralph Earnhardt and Junior Johnson grew their legacies here. In the 70's and 80's drivers like Jack Ingram, Bob and Robert Pressley, John Settlemyre and Tommy Houston made Hickory their playground. Late Model stars like Dexter Canipe, Andy Loden, Pete Silva, Barry Beggarly, Dennis Setzer and Robert Huffman made the 90's and early 2000's their time.
To this day, Hickory holds strong as one of the region's most competitve tracks for local racing and touring series like ASA, The CARS Tour, ARCA and the SMART Modified Tour.

We celebrate Modified history and heritage on the SMART Modified Tour and try to do so in an authentic manner. With Hickory Motor Speedway being one of the region's most historic venues, we like to pair the event with a look and feel that celebrates "Old School" Modified traditions with a "New School" attitude. Even the ads leading up to the race are designed around the classic nature of Hickory Motor Speedway.
