It was leased by Adam Resinick for 2 seasons. Mike Stodder operated the track from 2015 to 2017. Charlie Hansen & Michael Diaz signed a long-term lease in 2018. "The Mod Squad" is a beloved term to describe a group of Modified racers. It's a source of pride for those in the Modified racing community to be referred to as a member of "The Mod Squad". So yeah, it's more than the name of a hit 70's television show!
The Inaugural Mod Squad Nationals came in 2025 when the cancellation of a race led to the event being held at Virginia's Franklin County Speedway. When making the 2026 racing schedule for the SMART Modified Tour, owner Chris Williams and his staff thought there could be no better location for the "Mod Squad Nationals" than the wild bullring known as Wake County Speedway.
600-Horsepower Modifieds have graced many bullrings in the existence of the division. From Islip Speedway to Bowman Gray Stadium, the long history of Modified racing has frequented 1/4 mile ovals. The brand of racing at these tracks has been often described as watching "jet fighters in a gymnasium."
The 2nd edition of the Capital Automotive Mod Squad Nationals is set to thrill the fans of Wake County Speedway with the rush of open-wheeled excitement.
It's all a part of a Capital 199 race card that will feature 199-laps of racing in one Friday night across various racing divisions.
This is the first time the SMART Modified Tour has competed at Wake County Speedway.
